In this assignment we were asked to design a two floor boutique hotel lobby and amenities. We were challenged with incorporating biophilia throughout our hotel and taking inspirations from an artist. We decided to take a more abstract approach and use Jeni and Jeni’s Ice-cream as our inspiration. Maya and I worked collaboratively over the course of multiple weeks to ideate, design, and communicate our vision for a our hotel. Overall, we were very happy with our outcome and proud of what we accomplished in this timeframe. Had we had more time, there are slight changes and additions we would add. In general, this felt like our first true interior design project from start to finish. We learned a lot throughout this process and are excited to apply it to the future.

This is a group project. I was partnered with one other classmate. We both worked collaboratively on all aspects on this. I had a stronger focus on materials and the design of the space, while my partner had a stronger focus on renderings.
Concept Statement
Located just five short minutes from downtown Columbus, The Serendipity is more than a hotel, it is designed as a space that feels like home. The Serendipity is curated to embody a fun, youthful, and creative environment and draw in inspiration from a local favorite, Jeni’s Ice-cream and our neighbor the COSI. Jeni’s Ice-cream was founded in Columbus by culinary artist Jeni Bauer. Jeni’s goal similar to the Serendipity’s is to make better ice-cream and more importantly bring people together. The COSI also values this as their mission is to create fun for the whole family.

The Serendipity is a boutique hotel for families that want to spend their vacation embracing each other, their creativity, and their youth. Inside, you will find homemade ice-cream, fun patterns, a kids club, playground, and a secret speakeasy. Bright colors and soft fabrics will invite you into the space. The secret speakeasy and neon lights combined with the rooftop courtyard makes for the perfect kids free night. At Jeni’s Market, both locals and travelers can enjoy a delicious bowl of ice-cream or fresh coffee. Serendipity’s goal is to bring families together for both a fun vacation for kids and a luxurious stay for parents.

Material Palettes
These are some of the materials that I felt matched the overall vibe and aesthetic of our hotel. The bright yet light colors and patterns felt very youthful, fresh, and fun. They remind me of sorbet and fit the ice-cream perfectly. The second one features more moody colors and is the palate for our restaurant and speakeasy, which caters towards parents. It has a more luxury and darker feel for the reason.
