After completing design foundations, I did a five week long internship in the Czech Republic. During these five weeks, I was assigned to work for a film company called Drive Factory Film. Drive Factory Film is a small company that produces commercials, podcasts, and short clips for local people and small business located in and around Prague. They also work remotely on larger projects for tv shows on Amazon Prime and HBO Max. these shows are filmed in studios based out of London and Drive Factory Film videographers and editors are sent out to help develop them. Matej, the owner of Drive Factory Film, was looking for a refreshed look for his home based studio in Prague. He needed the studio to be flexible and functional for his wide range of guests who use the space. He really wanted something that was darker and felt more innovative and technological without spending a lot of money. My task during these five works was to work alongside one other intern to come up with design ideas and solutions for his space and present them to him.

This was one of the original collages that I showed him. He really liked the idea of having a more three dimensional wall and background. Dark colors worked best for when filming, so black seemed to be our best option. I tried to bring in some biophilic elements to freshen up the space and make it feel a little brighter while being black. He really liked a lot of these elements, but wanted to see something more original than a crown molding.

Final Outcome

He ended up choosing my design with the black three dimensional geometric shapes and adding in colored lighting to give it that technological feel on a budget. Him and his team are very happy with the outcome and have expressed that it works very well for their team and clientele. I am also very happy with how it turned out. This was my first true interior design project and was done before I had started any true interior design courses. I learned a lot through this project, specifically teaching myself SketchUp. I also learned a lot through communicating with Matej and Julie. They are both from Prague and spoke little English. Overcoming that language barrier, communicating my ideas, and trying designing a space catered to people of different customs and culture was all a new experience for me. It taught me so much about the professional world and being an interior designer. It deepened my love for the profession and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I am excited to continue to develop these skills and apply what I have learned to future projects and experiences.
